Level 1 Flameworking/ Borosilicate

Chicago Hot Glass FlameworkingThis is an four-week class designed to introduce the student to working with a large torch and borosilicate glass. Each class is designed to teach a number of different color applications and shaping techniques through hands-on teaching and demonstrations. All equipment is provided for this class

No previous glass experience is necessary.

Class Size Max: 6 students
Class Size Min: 2 students

Student requirements:

Students are required to wear all natural fibers (cotton, linen, silk, etc.) and closed toe shoes, bring a drinking container for water, and a sketchbook for notes.  Students are also required to wear eye protection (sunglasses or safety glasses) during the classes.  If you don’t have sunglasses, a pair of safety glasses will be provided for you.

Level 1 Glass Bead Making

Chicago Hot Glass Bead ClassIntro to Bead Making is a four-week, three-hour workshop designed to teach the student the basics of bead making on a small torch. Students will learn how to safely operate flameworking equipment and learn about torches, fuels, tools as well as properties of different glass types. Students will learn how to form a bead, qualities of a properly formed bead and finishing the final object. Basic shapes and decoration will be covered. This is a hands-on class; long hair needs to be contained and shirts be long sleeved and cotton.

Soft Glass/ Borosilicate 1-day class

Glass bead 01Come and explore small-scale glass art in our weekend crash courses in flameworking. Learn the concepts of melting glass to create beautiful objects to be taken home. This weekend crash course in flameworking is divided between Moretti (Saturdays) and Borosilicate (Sundays). Take one, take the other, or sign up for both at the same time and receive a discount. These classes are designed to introduce the student to the elements of working with hot glass. After taking either of these classes, students may sign up for our Moretti and Borosilicate Level 1 classes.

Make your own body jewelry

Body Jewelry BoroPyrex Glass Body Jewelry – Earplugs, Tusks, Hooks,

Tapers, Spirals, and other glass items.

1 day intro course for students with no experience in glassworking to create body jewelry and take
home the same day

This class will demonstrate and allow students with little or no experience to create their own
borosilicate glass earplugs, tusks, and different shaped tapers. The instructor will show students how to
properly melt glass together, bend and spiral glass appropriately, and size jewelry accordingly while
being produced.

All product will be small enough to anneal and take home the same day.
