Chicago Hot Glass Studio Rules
CHG wants all those who work in our studio to enjoy their experience and to expand and improve their skills. Safety is an important part of this effort. Please respect the staff, equipment and tools. Each user of this studio is responsible for knowing the studio rules.

Glory Holes

Chicago Hot Glass Glory Holes
Glory holes are used to reheat during the process of glassblowing. Most glory holes are gas powered and run at about 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. Each glory hole has a set of doors on the front of it that can be opened to make the entrance wider. Chicago Hot Glass currently has four glory holes for rent. Three of them are sixteen inches wide, the fourth is twelve.

Annealing Ovens

annealing Ovens Header
After finishing a piece of glass work, it needs to be annealed. Annealing is a process that prevents glass from shattering due to stresses caused by swift cooling. If a glass bowl, for instance, is not put in an annealer, it will cool down improperly and crack or explode.  Annealers come in all shapes and sizes. All of the annealers at CHG have electronic timers which control the cooling down process.
