The Hot Shop

Chicago Hot Glass features a spacious 3200 Sq Ft. hot shop. The studio is equipped with an electric glass furnace which holds 350 lbs of molten clear glass. We currently melt Spectrum Glass Nuggets which are 96 C.O.E. We have 4 glass blowing stations, each well equipped with Jim Moore glass blowing tools, Blockhead wood blocks, Steinart pipes and punties, as well as various Steinart, Blockhead, Carlo Dona, and custom blow molds.

"Glory Holes" glass reheating stations

We have 4 reheating stations at CHG. there are 2 medium sized glory holes with an internal diameter of 16". A large glory hole with 20" internal diameter and a small glory hole with a 12" diameter.

Our glory holes are brick lined with casted doors for optimal heat retention. We use pine ridge ribbon burners for even heat and quiet operation.

 

 
 

Pipe Warmer and Garage

Our garage for storing hot glass parts for assembly

Our pipe warmer was constructed with an old industrial boiler burner pulled from an old chicago apartment building. It will keep your pipes, punties, and color hot.

 
 

Annealing

We have 5 kilns for annealing your glass art. Three large kilns for larger work and several smaller ones for mid sized to smaller work.

 
 

Air and Gas

We also have pressurized air and have propane oxygen torches available for sculpting in the hot shop

 
 

Always improving

We are currently working on building a new furnace for colored glass and should be complete by mid Fall '08

We are also building a new front loading annealor for the hot shop
